Keri Beach
Scope of the Project

The Keri Beach located in Pernem Taluka is facing heavy erosion all along the length of 1680 metres. This is an important beach & thousands of international & national tourist visit every year. The sand dunes of beach provide protection to the low lying Keri village & agricultural lands.

During last 5-6 years heavy erosion of the beach & sand dunes is seen all along the length of the beach. The erosion is so severe that a width of 30-40metre of the beach had washed away all along the length of the beach. About 1000 casuarinas trees were planted on the sand dunes to protect of which about 800 have washed away due to sea erosion. This phenomenon due change in the wave patteren because of global warming & other environmental conditions.

On observing the erosion CPDAC (Coastal Protection & Development Advisory Committee Govt. of India ) was approached and the matter was discussed during the meeting held at Vishakhapattanum on 19th Jan.& 20th Jan 2007 and the Chief Research Officer from CWPRS,Pune, was requested to inspect the site and suggest remedial measures.

The CWPRS,GOI,Pune , Chief Research Officers along with the team inspected the site ,conducted the studies and suggested remedial measures.
